Hygge (pronounced hue-gah, sounds like Cougar....) is a Danish word used when acknowledging a feeling or moment, whether alone or with friends, at home or out, ordinary or extraordinary as cosy, charming or unique. Excerpt from www.hyggehouse.com
Are we feeling a bit blue? Are we tired of all the restrictions, worries and angst of the last six months?
When we are fatigued by everything that life throws at us, then it’s time for a bit of Hygge. We Brits have been practising Hygge for centuries. It’s become a bit of a buzz word, but in essence, we are pretty good at creating a cosy, comforting nest for ourselves.
Hygge - it’s about generating a relaxed snuggly feeling. Crackling log fires, warm socks and oversized baggy jumpers.
It’s an antidote to the stress of modern life.
It’s lounging in your pj’s on a Sunday with a good book.
It’s wrapping yourself up from the outside world.
It’s about layers of throws, sheepskins and toasting your feet at the fire.
It’s escaping the office and heading off to the pub for a huddle at the bar with close friends.
It’s comfort food like home-made soup.
It’s a small dinner party for close friends with simple dishes.
It’s a catch-up over coffee with friends.
It’s a morning spent baking and discovering the skills you forgot you had!
And it’s time spent with your beloved four-legged companions who may be picking up on your low mood and might also benefit from a little bit of Hygge!
Turn your beauty routine into a Hygge moment. Take a deep breath, be in the moment, light a candle, run a warm bath and let all the stressors of the day disappear. Take time cleansing and moisturising – you deserve some Hygge time. Nothing soothes like an indulgent long bath.
