Keeping ourselves safe during the Covid-19 pandemic requires social distancing. That's been extremely tough, and we don't know how long we will have to continue being disconnected from our families, friends and work colleagues. Remembering to always take a face mask with you and some hand gel when you pop out to the shops is yet another responsibility!
There are so many news articles about our mental health while we are all trying to keep ourselves safe; the psychological impact of social distancing has a significant effect on us. And the sad news is that it looks like we may have to keep up with our social distancing for some time yet!
While maintaining social distance, we all experience different feelings. We can enjoy the peace and feel safe in the bubble or feel annoyed by others' energy and carefree attitude. For a lot of us who live alone, we can experience loneliness and anxiety. We need to connect with others through our smiles and facial expressions, but wearing a face mask does not display how we are feeling.
Self-care is vital during these stressful times and spending time enjoying hobbies, walking and relaxing is an essential part of our wellbeing and to take time out just for us! With our busy lives, it's good to take a deep breath and appreciate the natural world.
A long walk and a quiet hour reading a book or listening to some relaxing music can make us feel calm and centred. Just a few minutes each day to break away from our tech, step outside and breathe in the fresh air, might be all we need to re-charge.
I'm looking forward to less social distancing and more social interaction with family and friends. No face masks, and the freedom to travel without the worry of keeping my distance!
